What happened to Amstel?
Before I start, I should say that I am Dutch. Born and half-bred, leaving for the USA in my early twenties.
Before I left, the beer of choice in our house was Amstel. Granted, I personally preferred Grolsch, but When you live in your parental house, you do not say no to the (free) beer on offer, largely fulfilling the needs of the boss (my dad).
Amstel it was.
Back home, it was good. A nice drinkable lager, 5% alcohol and very good on a hot day. Life in the Netherlands was great.
Fast forward 20+ years, add loads of coors light, Budweiser, Corona Extra, Grolsch (of course!!) and here we are tipping down an Amstel beer in the UK.
A 4.1% lager that, I am convinced, has been watered down considerably and does not come close to the brews I used to drink back home.
Why is it that here in the UK beer is more dilute? Did it change back home?, is it yet differs again elsewhere? Let me know and.....
Cheers!!
